For expats, parents and families navigating life abroad
Whether you’ve just moved, are raising kids across cultures, or feeling lost far from home, this space was created for you. As a psychotherapist working with international families, I’ve seen the emotional weight that transition can bring—and the power of the right tools to support growth, safety and connection.
Here you will find:
– Insights from evidence-based therapy & attachment theory
– No pressure, no judgment. Take what you need, when you need it.
Hi, I’m Dr. Chiara Casonato
I’m a psychotherapist based in Rome, working with adults, children and families facing big transitions—whether it’s moving across countries, adapting to a new culture, or parenting far from familiar support networks.
My work is grounded in attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and an integrative mind-body approach. Over the years, I’ve supported expats navigating identity shifts, emotional overwhelm, school challenges, and the quiet grief of disconnection from “home.”
In my clinical work, I’ve seen how deeply expat life can affect our emotional world. Behind every new beginning there’s often a mix of excitement, loneliness, identity shifts, and invisible grief—for parents, children, and individuals alike.
That’s why I created The Expat Mind: a space to share reflections, resources and tools that can support people even beyond the therapy room. Not everyone needs—or can access—ongoing psychotherapy, but everyone deserves support in navigating emotional life abroad.
These guides, materials and courses are based on my experience with international families and informed by attachment theory, trauma care, and mind-body integration. They’re here to help you feel more grounded, connected, and seen—wherever you are in the world.
